For a long time, the treatment of osteoid osteoma involved a “block” osseous excision that was damaging and disproportionate with respect to the size of the lesion. The difficulties in locating the nidus during surgery and the desire to limit the bone resection as much as possible contributed to the development of the percutaneous excision technique with scanographic location and guidance.
