The zika virus is transmitted mainly through the bites of infected mosquitoes of the genus aedes (mainly aedes aegypti) in tropical and subtropical regions.It was found mainly in Africa, but has now spread to Asia, the south Pacific islands and Latin America.The zika virus has been reported to cause microcephaly and even death in newborns.Clinical manifestations of zika infection include fever, conjunctivitis, transient arthritis/joint pain, and macular papules (which usually appear first on the face and then spread throughout the body).The incubation period (time from exposure to onset of symptoms) of zika virus disease is estimated to be 3-14 days.Most people infected with zika have no symptoms.There is no specific treatment and zika infection can be suspected based on the living or visiting history of symptomatic patients in areas where zika virus infection is spreading and/or where aedes mosquitoes are present.A confirmed diagnosis of zika virus infection requires laboratory tests of blood or other body fluids, such as urine or semen
